That game has been published!!! (https://lfrohling.itch.io/pipe-cleaner) Even though there is a LOT of things I would want to add/fix to it (and I’ve got a lot of juicy feedback from “playtesters” (aka friends) I most likely will not be releasing an updated version of the game.
My new project is quite high reaching but could be easily broken down (though I don’t know if the technology exists yet). I’m looking to bring a physical object into VR space. I thought of AR but using the cameras on the Quest 2 is headache inducing – even for a short period of time. So I want the use to be able to load materials into the space using their hands (kind of like how you can bring a couch into the Oculus home screen). There is a guy who is doing exactly what I want (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX03XC2_erQ) but he just got a new job and is in USA. Never the less I sent him an email. I’d like it to be as quick and easy as setting the ground level on Quest 2 )when orientating the boundary).
If my concept is workable it will produce a game the world has NEVER seen before!! You play as a certain type of ex-criminal (I can’t tell you what sort just yet) and you’ve been strong-armed into doing certain jobs in certain places. On some levels/scenes there are time limits and on others there is none. There will be a variety of tools to be used in-game (all of which operated by hand)- though it might be easier for the player to have a ball they can use so to have tactile feedback. Doing the research (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpQePH-Ffbw) for hand tracking. Marker based hand motion tracking – very accurate (so this would be the advanced version of my game- possible stretch goals). This concept was thought about a month ago (conceptualised) with pictures etc but I’d like to start development today (29/10/2021) if I have time. Another is the possible world record (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuMvrhI6jzE) – lol not really just 13 players at once. There’s also webinar build for tomorrow vive hand tracking sdk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8AOCx1lCww) – might be useful if I was to do something for Vive (lol). While it plays I’m starting the tutorial from week two. OVR integration. Which version will I use? I’m going to use the latest…

So version 2020.3.21f1 (LTS). I’m trying to do multiple things at once as computer isn’t perfect. I’m trying to open a DOC without MS Office (I’m tired of using and then needing to fix Microcr*p products if I don’t absolutely need to use them) – so I’m on Open Office atm- not the best solution but a good compromise. I’ve also got Thunderbird handling my email (etc) as soon as I set up the access to other providers. Turns out today is a public holiday in JUST Brisbane and some of the surrounding areas (“people’s holiday” sounds strongly communistic- disgusting. Communism is all about the people in power using the slogan “for the people” to hypocritically control the people and do whatever the hell they want which is usually abuse vaguely veiled as goodness).
So I would like to also have a room in VR I can move around in – just to call my own. There’s a fantastic garage asset (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/urban/garage-workshop-104604#description) but it may just be TOO good for me as I want to show what I can do not what others can do- what can I do but it just looks sooo good! I downloaded the free version of garage which looks OK (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/interior/simple-garage-197251) not as cool but definitely nice! First things first, learn hand tracking (OVR Integration). The tutorial page took me to Oculus (https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/unity/unity-handtracking/) The Vive links were dead but that’s OK.
Strangely Oculus Integration keeps disappearing whenever I start a new project and I have to go to this link (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/integration/oculus-integration-82022) to re-download it into my Assets every time.
